Having successfully readjusted her life following a nasty divorce from her husband, Colin Jennings, Maxine has settled into a comfortable life.  Shortly after the dissolution of her marriage, she begins dating a friend of her ex-husband, Paul Corzine.  A kind, attentive and loyal man, Paul falls deeply in love with Maxine.  While enjoying his birthday dinner celebration together, he unexpectedly proposes, catching her completely off guard.

Although she feels strongly about Paul, Maxine is unsure if she is ready to wade back into the often-rocky waters of matrimony.  The fate of her future resting with her answer, Maxine is vexed with mixed emotions.  Eventually, she comes to a decision which she feels is in the best interests of all those involved.
