Lullabies of Mercy

Christ’s love is available to all; yet, same-gender-loving (SGL) persons have often felt left out of that love. Frequently derided by family, friends and church folk, the SGL community is in great need of personal ministry and sweet, loving words of tender mercy.

 In simple and moving language, author Calpatrick Robertson trumpets a message that cannot be told too many times: The love of Christ is readily available to all persons—regardless of their sexual orientation. In his book, Lullabies of Mercy: Comfort for the Same-Gender-Loving Person, Robertson addresses the massive need of the SGL community to feel love and acceptance by the Alpha and Omega – Jesus Christ.

 In fourteen powerful chapters Robertson shares sermonettes and personal experiences of other SGL persons, to make it known that they are fully accepted and complete in the love of Christ. Each “lullaby” highlights a concern that will resonate deeply within SGL individuals: Rejections by family, friends, or co-workers. Conflicts about sexual orientation; Desire to loose ones self in things and/or substance abuse; overcoming the flawed messages of many mainstream churches.

Part 1 – Love Me, Don’t Push Me Away:

Here, you will come to learn that God has “Singled [you] Out” and is willing to comfort you. Read a powerful story of one person’s yearning for reunification with his family members, as he stumbles across the joy of Christ. Though beaten and burdened by the Cross Christ carried, Jesus’ love compelled him to reach out beyond himself and ask, “Permit me, Adonai?” Read an emotional story of a young man’s desire to be open with his family as his heart cries out, “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?” after I share with you what is in my heart. Experience the tug-of-war a man faces as the “Man in the Mirror” is torn between his spiritual reflection and his carnal man. In chapter five, feel how God ministers to this person’s soul through his “Yearning” for a special song. Draw your own conclusions as the author strokes across the canvas with the artist’s brush to create an “Abstract Painting” in a quest for answers. Take courage to answer the question for yourself as Jesus asks a young lady, “What Do You Want Me To Do For You?” Read carefully and be admonished to “Wake Up!”

Part II – Christ is inviting all “Come to Me”

In this section, learn that. Christ is inviting all people to “Come to Me.” Learn that if you surrender your life to Him; Christ has it “All Planned Out.” Come to discover that whatever your Addiction may be, Christ is more “Addictive.” Then will walk into the arms of Christ and let him “Hug” you. As Christ waves His “Banner of Love” over you, be saturated in his tenderness and love for you. And last but not least, read how the author compared his struggles writing this book to his Christian walk, and experience just an ounce of what Christ may have felt on the cross when he looked up to God the Father and said, “It Is Finished.”

Each “lullaby” communicates that Christ yearns for closeness with SGL persons and that He is eager and available to be their counselor, shield, and protector.
