Egyptian antiquities offer glimpses of a civilization that is fascinating for its architecture, arts, government, and religion. The Brooklyn Museum of Art counts among its renowned treasures one of the world's finest collections of Egyptian antiquities: sculptures, reliefs, funerary articles, and accessories. Pieces reproduced here include stelae and plaques of mythical figures and holy royalty, a funerary cartonnage and shroud, and stylized works of sculpture. All were acquired by the museum in the past century or so, through the guidance of the Egyptologist Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie and the gifted amateur Charles Edwin Wilbour.
