Calendar One of the twentieth century’s most creative and original artists, Romare Bearden (American, 1911–1988) explored subject matter that highlighted the broad range of his interests in the humanities and his deep engagement with African American life and culture. During his sixty-five-year career, Bearden worked in many mediums but was best known as a master collagist. His art captured the vibrancy of the people and places of the rural South, the urban North, and the Caribbean. This calendar’s twelve images—eleven collages and one painting—offer a sampling of the artist’s rich and varied oeuvre.
